Book Reviews - A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
This book received a mixed reception, split between those who had read The Kite Runner and thhose who had not
Those who had read The Kite Runner found the book to be less original and felt that The KIte Runner, whilst harrowing, offered relief in its portrayal of the kite competition; contrasting the horrendously brutal and the beautiful. A Thousand Splendid Suns was far more conventional and offered no such relief/imaginative insight
Those who had not read The Kite Runner felt the book was a gripping insight into Afghanistan and that it was vivid in its portrayal of women's lives and helplessness
The book provided a lively discussion and all felt it was accurately researched and thought-provoking
