Everybody was disapointed by this book, with no-one feeling inspired to read any more John Updike.
We all found it very hard to like or even epathise with the characters and felt the storyline was poor and the characters weak.
On a positive side, the majority of the group found Updike's style of writing enjoyable and refreshing with some powerful evocative descriptions and amusing observations, it was just the storyline that let it down!
