Book Reviews - Restless by William Boyd

This book was felt to be light relief after several 'heavy' reads!

We all found it an easy read and, though the opening was somewhat of a cliche, once this was over, we felt the book was well-paced and entertaining

We found Boyd's portrayal of two female characters a little frustrating at time - having just read Middlesex and A thousand Splendid Suns where the authors were convincing in their femininity, we felt Boyd's characterisation was somewhat lacking in inner thought and sympathy!

Everyone found the ending rather predictable and there were points where we felt the storyline was inconsistent

On the positive side, we found the insight into the American entry of the WW2 was educational and informative, as was the potrayal of the roles of women during the war.

Many of us thought that William Boyd was very much a 'mans writer' but that we would read more of his books as holiday reads/easy relaxation!
