Not Just Desserts

Tunbridge Wells Book Club

Book Reviews - The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton

Only about half the group finished the book within the four-week timescale, as it was such a rich read which required intense concentration at times.

We all agreed it was a beautifully-written, moving story and many felt they would like to read more Edith Wharton. The book led to a lengthy discussion on moral values and the burden of beauty.

The second half of the book was found to be much easier to read than the first, as the story gathered pace and emotion.
