Book Reviews - The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penney

This book had a mixed reception. Most of us found it heavy-going to start with, but it improved as the pace picked up.

On discussion, we realised how well the harsh, unfeeling characters with occasional glimpses of tenderness reflected the environment and the living conditions. Nobody found any of the characters particularly likeable but we agreed that Mrs Ross's astute one-liners often made us smile.

We felt it was well-researched and accurate, but past reads like The Secret River had been more evocative in their style
