AdministrationThough we are an informal group, we have found it helpful to have a few base rules to ensure that members are committed to the group. They are listed below. They are done in the spirit of everyone wanting to achieve an open environment.... 1. Book club is a commitment. If a member does not attend for 3 consecutive meeetings, she will be asked to leave and her place will be offered to someone on the waiting list. 2. If you are unable to attend a meeting, it is your responsibility to contact the hostess and give your apologies. As we are cooking for one another, as much notice as possible is appreciated. 3. Try to propose books that you have read. If a book is chosen which you do not want to read, you should still try - we owe it to each other to be open and respectful. 4. When proposing, propose up to 3 books. If you have only one book which you really want everyone to read, then be prepared with a back up just in case many members have already read it! 5. Please try hard not to discuss the book outside of meetings! For the members who do not see each other between meetings, it can be frustrating to discover that the book has already been semi-reviewed on the school playground! 6. If you are the hostess and cannot host due to unforeseen circumstances, the date of the meeting will remain the same and it is up to you, as the hostess, to cajole another member of the group into hosting! If this is not possible, we will meet in a wine bar/restaurant on that date. The Thursdays agreed are effectively cast in stone and every effort should be made to keep them free. Past experiences have shown that rearranging meetings to alternative dates is never sucessful. 7. Please do not feel pressured to produce haut cuisine! Many of us work and we would all prefer Marks and Spencer/Cook and a relaxed environment rather than home cooking and a frizzled hostess! Domestic godesses are still welcome in the group as long as they remove their halos before entering... |
